The rice that built Charleston. Carolina Gold was the grandmother of American long grain, nearly extinct by the 1930s, and brought back by Anson Mills in the South Carolina lowcountry. Milled to order with the germ left in, it tastes faintly of green tea and almond and cooks fluffy, creamy or sticky depending on what you ask of it.
Rice pudding, a pilau, a risotto with pesto stirred in at the end. Keep it in the refrigerator; it is fresh food. Finish a bowl with Taste of Tuscany Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a pinch of Wild Oregano & Sage Savory Salt. More pantry essentials and pasta and grains.
