“Women are the nourishing power of the Universe.”
- Amit Ray
It's early morning and dark outside. I'm nestled comfortably in an orange 60's swivel chair, computer balanced on my knees. The sound of rain begins to gently tap on the skylight window overhead, the perfect background music for writing this weeks missive, which happens to fall on Mother's Day.
As I contemplate honoring my own mother, I am thinking about all the amazing women in my life, those I hold closely and love deeply, and those I admire from afar. The mothers of children, of businesses, of beauty in all its forms. The caretakers, the rainmakers, the way finders. The ones who nurture a creative life, who follow their passion and pursue their dreams, and who hold space for others to do the same with unwavering strength and grace.
This Sunday Slowdown is dedicated to you.
You inspire me with your artistry, your resilience, your generosity of spirit. Whether you are birthing new ideas, healing old wounds, breaking barriers, or quietly weaving magic in your own corner of the world, you are seen, you are celebrated, and you are deeply appreciated.
Here's to the makers of meals and memories, of art and enterprise, of love and legacy. Those brave and bold truth-tellers, who embody grace and beauty, who have the courage to show up in the midst of adversity, who give and give and give, who dance their way through the world, who share their joy and transmute their pain. It is the beauty of showing up and being exactly who you are, as you are, flaws and all. I aspire to embody that way of being in the world, to surround myself with women like you, who allow and encourage me to be the best of who I am, flaws and all. Together, may we continue to nourish and nurture each other, the children (especially the furry ones), our planet, our individual and collective souls. And to my mother, who boldly raised seven of us siblings at a very young age. With each passing year, I am ever more grateful. My life would not be as it is without the path you paved for me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for holding my heart in your hands.
It is still dark outside and the rain is now a steady downpour. The tip tap overhead has turned into a rhythmic drum-like beat, interrupted only occasionally by the whoosh of wet tires as cars pass by my studio window. There is nothing quite like the beauty of stillness in the early morning hours.
Enjoy this day! There will never be another one the same. Make it beautiful. Share it, savor it, relish in the beauty that you are.
