SUNDAY SLOWDOWN | A luminous Thread
“Synchronicity is an inexplicable and profoundly meaningful coincidence that stirs the soul and offers a glimpse of one's destiny.”
- Phil Cousineau
Life is a constant ebb and flow of circumstances, an endless swirl of activity that leads us down a meandering path, often without our approval or conscious awareness. And, we can also cultivate the conditions to create something to happen. A state of grace through openness to the marvelous and the unexpected.
Carl Jung called this phenomenon “meaningful coincidences, ” events that appear unrelated by cause, yet are knitted together by a hidden significance. Andre Breton called it “hasard objectif” or objective chance, when an inner desire or thought seems to magnetize, or materialize, an external event. It's as if the world has been quietly listening to our thoughts all along.
I call it synchronicity. (again, Carl Jung)
Lately, I have been the witness to others' experience of synchronicities. It's beautiful to watch when those connections are made, the subtle signs and symbols that speak to and through the soul, connecting seeming disparate events into a meaningful and wonderous moment of awe.
I have been contemplating what it means to call upon those magical and mysterious moments for myself, an invocation of awareness and openness so that the extraordinary will manifest, yet knowing that it is without the assurance of when, where or how that invitation will arrive. A bowing down in surrender to a power greater than my own. In the midst of all the daily distractions, how do we stay open to this intended awe with restrained anticipation? We craft our days to invite its offering. We articulate a manifesto of the moment, or a more deeply held belief that is imbued in our everyday acts and how we live our life. When we slow our pace, lower our gaze, and pay attention to the quiet workings beneath the surface, there is a world of wonder waiting for us.
